62 free American Beauty trivia questions with answers — entertainment quiz, new questions added Aug 2026.
This American Beauty trivia quiz covers Sam Mendes's 1999 Best Picture winner from Lester Burnham's opening narration to the blood on the kitchen wall. The easy questions are for anyone who has seen it once: who plays Lester, Carolyn, Jane, Ricky and Angela, the car Lester buys, the job he takes, the flower that fills his fantasies and the piece of litter Ricky calls the most beautiful thing he has ever filmed. The harder half is about how the film was made: Alan Ball's abandoned stage play and the tabloid trial that started it, the $250,000 the studio paid for the script, the DGA-minimum fee a first-time director accepted, the actors who were offered Lester and Angela and said no, the performances Kevin Spacey studied, the cinematographer Tom Cruise recommended, the deleted courtroom bookends and the flying dream that opened the first cut. Expert questions go into the sitcoms Ball wrote for, the box-office numbers, the Blockbuster rental standoff and the awards run that ended with five Oscars. Every answer was checked against the film's Wikipedia article and its cited sources before publishing, and each question shows its citation once you have answered.
