Acts is the only book of the New Testament that tells what happened next. It opens with Jesus taken up into a cloud and ends, twenty-eight chapters later, with Paul under guard in Rome, and in between the church goes from one upstairs room in Jerusalem to the synagogues and public squares of the Roman world. These 90 questions follow that road in order: the choosing of a twelfth apostle, the day the Spirit came, Peter's healings and prison breaks, the stoning of the first martyr, Saul blinded on the Damascus road, the centurion whose household changed the rules for Gentiles, the council in Jerusalem, the jail at Philippi, the riot at Ephesus, the hearings before governors and a king, the storm, the island and the final voyage to Italy.
