India's freedom struggle is usually taught as a roll call of names: Bhagat Singh, Subhas Chandra Bose, the Rani of Jhansi, Tilak, Gokhale, Sardar Patel, Sarojini Naidu, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhikaji Cama, Khudiram Bose. The names are the easy part. The stories behind them, a hunger strike that lasted nine weeks, a flag raised at a congress in Europe, a submarine voyage halfway round the world, a presidential run by a veteran of the Indian National Army, are where a quiz gets interesting.
