The Seattle Kraken paid $650 million to become the NHL's 32nd team, retired the number 32 before their first home game, and beat the defending champions in their first playoff series. This Kraken trivia quiz covers the whole short history and the long one before it: the 1917 Metropolitans, the first American team to win the Stanley Cup, the Coyotes relocation that nearly happened, Ron Francis and the expansion draft at Gas Works Park, Matty Beniers' Calder Trophy, the seven-game upset of Colorado, Joey Daccord's Winter Classic shutout and the coaching carousel from Hakstol to Lambert. There are questions on Climate Pledge Arena and its preserved 1962 roof, the ferry-horn goal horn, 'Lithium', the plush salmon toss, Buoy the sea troll, Davy Jones the team dog, the Slap Shot organist, the first all-Black broadcast duo, Jessica Campbell's hiring, Macklemore and Marshawn Lynch as owners, and the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Easy questions for new fans sit beside genuinely hard ones. Every answer was checked against encyclopaedic and reference sources before publishing, and each question carries a citation.
