60 free The Count of Monte Cristo trivia questions with answers — literature quiz, new questions added Aug 2026.
This Count of Monte Cristo trivia quiz follows Edmond Dantès from the deck of the Pharaon to the last letter on the island. The plot questions cover the letter from Elba, the three men who framed him, prisoner number 34, the priest in the tunnel, the burial sack, the treasure of Cardinal Spada, the aliases from Sinbad the Sailor to Lord Wilmore, the bandit Luigi Vampa, the telegraph swindle, the poisonings in the Villefort house, the duel with Albert and the two words that hold all human wisdom. The second half looks behind the book: the shoemaker Pierre Picaud whose real revenge gave Dumas the plot, the ghostwriter Auguste Maquet, the boat trip round Montecristo with a future emperor, the newspaper serial, the prudish Victorian translation and the one that fixed it. Then the adaptations, from Orson Welles on the radio to Jim Caviezel on Malta, the anime Gankutsuou and the TV series Revenge, plus the real Château d'If and Dumas's own Château de Monte-Cristo. Every answer has been checked against the Wikipedia articles on the novel, its author, the Château d'If and the 2002 film, and each explanation adds one detail worth passing on.
