8 minutes
Light takes about 8 minutes (8 minutes 20 seconds) to cover the roughly 150 million kilometres from the Sun to Earth, a distance astronomers call one astronomical unit.
Q 06What is the Sun mostly made of?
Hydrogen and helium
The Sun is about three quarters hydrogen and one quarter helium by mass; each second its core fuses roughly 600 million tonnes of hydrogen into helium, releasing the energy that warms Earth.
Q 07What is a sunburn caused by?
Ultraviolet rays from the Sun
UV light damages the skin, which is why sunscreen with a good SPF rating matters at the pool.
